We also had our first evening league game on Wednesday against Knaresborough Forest A away. Having won the toss, we inserted Forest and through some good bowling from Robbie Andonovski and Shaun Marshall took early wickets whilst restricting the run rate to well below a run a ball. This was followed up by another good spell from Jonny Knocker - and a hugely encouraging spell from our new recruit Charlie Afzal. Wickets continued to fall and Forest ended up on significantly below par 82 off their alloted 16 (6-ball) overs.
Chris Kimberley and Charlie opened the batting, but seemed to struggle with the slowness of the pitch and with blowing off the early season cobwebs. Chris Cowell (31) and Chronic did their usual job of running hard and hitting the bad balls to inject some urgency into the chase, until Chronic was run out by a direct hit. Robbie Andonovski played his usual composed game and batted through to the end, whereas Chris Cowell ran himself out going for yet another suicidal single. This brought Shaun Marshall to the crease, who followed up his bowling effort with some lusty blows to see Dacre home with 6 wickets and 9 balls to spare.
Whilst the second teamers involved have now won every game they have played this season, victory was a novel experience for many of the first teamers - but by jiminy does it taste good. On to Saturday and more winning!
