Proposed League Format Changes for 2018 Season

Mighty Bankers

There is a Special General Meeting of the Nidderdale League taking place this Tuesday to agree next seasons League format.  The League website has the proposed details http://www.nidderdaleleague.co.uk/archives/6159 and I would urge you all to have a look at this as soon as you can.  While the main proposals are going to be trialled next season it is a very different format to what we have been enjoying up until now.  Please let me have any comments or suggestions on the options before Tuesday pm.  I shall be attending and if anyone else fancies coming along to discuss the options please let me know.

Thanks

Ground work and Nets - Saturday 8th April

Might Bankers

A little bit of ground work is required on Saturday morning which we can combine with some nets.  A bit of painting is needed, just of the cover frames and a few panels on the sight screens.

The more who can show up the less time the work will take and we can then do the important bit, nets!

Please can you make an effort to show up at 1000am and we'll crack the work quickly.

Thank you

Barry Gill

Mighty Bankers

As some of you will already know, today Dacre Banks CC lost one of its integral characters, Barry Gill.  Barry had been suffering, thankfully for a short time, from cancer and passed away on 23rd December.

Many of us will know Barry from his tireless, and often lonely,  efforts at maintaining wickets to an exceptional standard at the club.  He often worked alone on this task but those who were fortunate enough to join him shared an experience of laughter, enjoyment and a unique sense of humour.

He played over 800 games for Dacre and Tim will no doubt provide stats in due course.  The end of his playing career saw him getting involved in looking after the precious wickets we all use, and will continue to use, on a weekly basis.

His interests around the cricket field extended into another passion of his, photography.  A lot of us have been caught in action by Barry's inquisitive camera lens.  They were always such high quality and were appreciated across the League where he captured action shots from every club match and competition.

We are going to miss Barry more than we know.  He will always be remembered by his friends at Dacre Banks CC as a true gentleman, exceptional club member and colleague to us all.

As we settle into the festive period please pause in your celebrations to raise a glass to Barry and to Maggie and Barry's daughter and sister who are all in our thoughts during this very, very sad time.

Jonny

Message from Eric Houseman

Message from Club Joint President Eric Houseman

Mighty Bankers

Eric has asked me to convey a message to all the Bankers as follows:

"I am delighted and extremely proud of our Club and its activities this season.  The manner in which the First team turned its season around and avoided relegation is testament to the great commitment made by Timmy Carrington and all members of the First team squad.  The second team have had a frustrating season with matches being conceded by the opposition but despite this Jonny Harris has maintained a great team spirit for the games played which bodes well for the future.

I was personally extremely delighted that Chris Eckford won the Best Keepers award for not only Division 2 but the entire League!

Above all else, we have successfully managed to turn around the dire position at the end of the last season when we were unable to regularly put out two teams.  There has been a great improvement this year with only one game being conceded.

Please can I thank everyone for their efforts this year in ensuring that cricket continues to be played and enjoyed at Dacre Banks.  As ever, we should be grateful for the tireless commitment to keeping the club going shown by Timmy Carrington, The Marshall Family, Jonny Harris and all other members of the Committee.

As you'll know my time is taken up with more pressing priorities so I have not been able to enjoy watching so many matches this year.  However I'm really pleased to see that you are all continuing to enjoy playing for Dacre Banks and hope this will continue in the years to come.

Thank you."

Well done bankers.

ECB Players Survey 2016

Message from our Graham Hyde:

Good Afternoon All,

The National Cricket Playing Survey offers you the chance to have your say and influence the future of the cricket you play.

This year’s survey is the shortest ever and will only take around 10 minutes of your time. You can give feedback on your satisfaction with the game, the effectiveness of any changes you’ve experienced, and your thoughts on how your club cricket should continue to change.

If we can get a really good response from our players we are able to carry out some detailed analysis of responses and trends in our League.  Please complete the survey and share it as widely as you can amongst your club, teams and friends.  The League is particularly interested in the views of cricketers under 25 years old.

You will also have the chance to enter in a draw to win a £250 voucher for the ECB online shop, which stocks all the latest playing equipment.

Its quick, its easy, its online.  Click through this link to complete the survey.

Please distribute this note as widely as possible to allow us to gain as much insight about the Nidderdale League as possible.

Regards
Graham Hyde

Commitment

Mighty Bankers

As you will all know we are on a "yellow card" for the first 8 games for the Second team this year.  Due to our high number of match cancellations last season, when we had to cancel games due to lack of players, the League are watching us very closely for the first two months of the forthcoming season.

I am therefore asking you to please make a commitment to games early on this year.  The availability spreadsheet has been created so the skippers can see who can/cannot play.

They can only do this if you do your bit and fill in your availability.

Please take a few minutes to let everyone know when you can play by completing as much as you can on the spreadsheet.  If you cannot access a computer, text me and I'll add your details.

Its a big word "Commitment".  See if you can use it!

Izaya Broderick - Dacre Banks CC Overseas Player 2016

Mighty Bankers

Delighted to confirm that Izaya Broderick, aged 21, will be joining us as our Overseas Player for the forthcoming season. Izaya describes himself as an all rounder bowling left arm wrist spin and batting middle order.  He is a Kiwi by origin and currently studying at the University of Queensland in Brisbane.

Izaya will be living and working at the Harefield Hall as Mitch did last year and will be arriving on 15th March to settle in.  I am sure you'll all make him feel welcome and ensure that he enjoys his time with us this summer.

Don't forget that we are still player hunting for the season.  And next start soon which Tim has organised at Steve Lawrence's on 31st January at 3pm. Anyone at all who you think would fancy a season with us please bring them down to this.

Cheers

Christmas Draw - Wednesday 23rd December 2015

Bankers

So far ONLY four players and three non-playing members have sold their tickets for the forthcoming draw on Wednesday evening.  This is a real disappointment.

Everyone was given an envelope at the end of last season with tickets to be sold for this draw.  I know it seemed like ages to go before this week at the time.  However it has crept up on us and we need some more commitment from you all at this late stage.

Please can you make an effort to find your tickets in your cricket bag, in the loft or wherever, and sell a few tickets, or make some sort of donation to the draw.

Those who have already sold tickets and provided prizes know who you are.  And as always, it is a big thank you to you guys.

Those who have not yet sold any tickets or made any other attempt to support your club, please do so.

You also know who you are.

Any prizes of any shape or size will be happily received as will tickets and money by Sue M.

And drop in to the Pavilion on Wednesday evening at 8pm for the draw and pick up your prize!

It's your Club,  as I keep saying.

Club AGM - Your New Committee for 2016

Mighty Bsnkers

Firstly, thank you to all of you who made the effort to attend the AGM last night.  Despite lashing rain and wind a total of 15 members attended the meeting to elect a new Committee for the next year.

Apologies were received form a number of other who were unable to make it.

Your Club Officers for next season are:

Presidents:  Alec and Eric Houseman
Chairman:  Jonny Knocker
Vice-Chair:  Sue Marshall
Secretary:  Tim Carrington
Treasurer:  Paul Ellison
First Team Captain:  Tim Carrington
First Team V-Captain: Steve Ellison
Second Team Captain: Jonny Harris, Jonny Knocker, Glyn Burgess
Second Team V-Captain:  Jonny Harris, Jonny Knocker, Glyn Burgess
Evening League Captain: Shaun Marshall
Evening League V-Captain: Steve Ellison
DHPFA Reps: Jonny Knocker, Sue Marshall
NADCL Reps: Tim Carrington, Steve Ellison
Evening League Representative: Sue Marshall
Committee members:  Jade Abel, Mark Peachy, Steve Wyss, Dave Marshall

Subs remain unchanged for the year.

The main need for next season will be player commitment.  After conceding seven matches last season, the League will be monitoring the Second team for the first 8 games of the season to ensure we field a full side.  If we don't, the Club is likely to find its second team expelled from the League.

The repercussions of this are obvious to us all.

So please make every effort to secure new players for the Club and when asked to make a commitment to play, stick to this commitment.

More to follow….

Catching up with the Andonovskis

All is well here, after living in Melbourne for a few years we're now in Canberra and there are two little Andos! Eve and Jake (Jake is 5 weeks old and looks like he might be a spin bowler).

Robbie still follows the scores and saw your name! Robbie finished up after his time in Yorkshire. I was sad for him but he wanted to free up his weekends and he thinks he wasn't good enough anymore! I think he wanted to finish on a high. I do love having him around.
We have such fond memories of our summer in Dacre Banks, hopefully we will get back one day. Actually it'd be great to be transported there now, Canberra winters are harsh!
It does get cold in Canberra, cold enough for us woos bags to complain. It's been below zero a few nights and the bird bath has frozen over. No getting snowed in though or maybe once every 10 years.
Give everyone in the Banks a high five from us!

Note: Robbie's surprise was at seeing Ellison Senior on 1st team scorecards

We need Players!

Mighty Bankers

Call me a concerned pain in the neck but without putting too finer point on it, we are short of players for this season.  We currently have 8 players committed to the first weekend of league matches.  We need 22.  Can those who have not yet completed their availability on the spreadsheet either do so, or let your skipper know asap.

Anyone you are aware of who might be interested in playing games for us this season we need to nail them down.  Also, anyone who has played for us but isn't sure about this season, please try and persuade them to have another go.

Come on Bankers let's not let the team, or Club down by failing to get two teams onto the pitch this year.

It now looks new again and ready for an exciting season ahead.  I am sure you will all want to join me in thanking the above hardy souls for their efforts on Saturday.  It is much appreciated.

Waitrose have selected the Dacre and Hartwith Playing Fields Association (Max Pullen) as one of their three designated charities for the month of April.

If you are shopping in Harrogate during April for groceries, please drop in to Harrogate and support the Pavilion by placing your token given to you at the check outs in the correct box near the exit of Waitrose.  It will help keep our rental cost to a minimum if we can all make an effort to support this.

ECB/YCB Cricket Coaching Road Show

Mighty Bankers

Would anyone be interested in attending this event NEXT WEDNESDAY 11th March at Harrogate Cricket Club?  We can take two participants form Dacre Banks CC.  As you have shown an interest in coaching and setting up a junior section in the years ahead, attendance at this type of event will be valuable to say the least.

If anyone would like to go please let me know and I'll arrange accordingly.

This is a great chance to find out more about coaching which is going to be an essential part of the club "jigsaw" if we are to introduce junior cricket on a serious scale.

And if we can get some real momentum behind this initiative, perhaps there won't be so much pressure in selling raffle tickets!!

Christmas Draw update

Mighty Bankers

As we get closer to Christmas please remember that you have all been handed some raffle tickets to sell before 19th December.  For the many of you who have studied the tickets closely in great anticipation of a major scoop just before Christmas, you'll have noted that the tickets advise the draw will be taking place in the Royal Oak.

It isn't.

Instead it will take place on Friday (19th December) evening at 8.00pm at the Pavilion.  All are welcome to attend and the more the merrier, if you can.

Please focus on selling your tickets as quickly as possible.  If you can't sell them, how about buying them yourself?  This is a relatively easy way of raising money and we need as much as possible to re-boost Club funds.

Top prize of £100 cash will be handy for buying a round, getting the last Christmas present, or paying your Club membership nice and early!

All tickets sold should be back to Sue M on Thursday 18th December, please.

Easy Fundraising!

As I flagged up at the AGM it would be great if we can get more people registered with EasyFundraising.

Its dead easy to set up. Simply follow this link (http://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/find-a-cause/?v=a), search 'Dacre Banks Cricket Club', and click support this cause. Then you can add your details and create your account. Then, whenever you buy something online the retailer will make a donation to DBCC, at not cost to you!

So far we have raised over £450 by this effortless method and clearly with the inevitable Christmas purchases rolling in we can significantly add to that and get the club's bank balance moving in the right direction again!

Anybody can register an account so if you've got wives, girlfriends, children who like to spend your money get them signed up too!
