Barry Gill

Mighty Bankers

As some of you will already know, today Dacre Banks CC lost one of its integral characters, Barry Gill.  Barry had been suffering, thankfully for a short time, from cancer and passed away on 23rd December.

Many of us will know Barry from his tireless, and often lonely,  efforts at maintaining wickets to an exceptional standard at the club.  He often worked alone on this task but those who were fortunate enough to join him shared an experience of laughter, enjoyment and a unique sense of humour.

He played over 800 games for Dacre and Tim will no doubt provide stats in due course.  The end of his playing career saw him getting involved in looking after the precious wickets we all use, and will continue to use, on a weekly basis.

His interests around the cricket field extended into another passion of his, photography.  A lot of us have been caught in action by Barry's inquisitive camera lens.  They were always such high quality and were appreciated across the League where he captured action shots from every club match and competition.

We are going to miss Barry more than we know.  He will always be remembered by his friends at Dacre Banks CC as a true gentleman, exceptional club member and colleague to us all.

As we settle into the festive period please pause in your celebrations to raise a glass to Barry and to Maggie and Barry's daughter and sister who are all in our thoughts during this very, very sad time.

Jonny
